1st Grade: Maracas

The first graders learned about maracas: where they originate, what many are made of, and what they look like.

Then the kids used crayons to draw designs and tempera cakes to paint the entire outside of the plate.  Once dry, plate was folded over and stapled, and a few plastic beads were popped inside to create the rhythmic sounds when shaken. The kids used a hole puncher, pipe cleaners, and beads for an added splash of color.
