2nd Grade: Mondrian: Alike and Different

In 2nd grade we discussed Mondrian and how he believed that the best art was comprised of "pure" elements: primary colors, vertical and horizontal lines, and black and white space.  After splitting a white sheet of paper down the middle, the kids collaged a Mondrian-like image.  The next week, we discussed opposites: straight vertical and horizontal lines vs. curly and diagonal, primary colors vs. secondary colors.  They then collaged and used permanent black marker.
